AI-in-the-Loop
Almost all organizations use documents in one way or another. Many people are wondering if artificial intelligence (AI) can help with that, without being too risky or complex.
Some AI tools offer a "black box" approach, where you don't know how the AI is coming up with the content, and it is often hard to fine tune the results. Another common challenge is "hallucinations", where incorrect facts are presented (convincingly) as correct.
Our solution, Tag, takes a different approach. In Tag the human user is at the center of all work, and AI is only pulled in as needed. We call this AI-in-the-Loop instead of Human-in-the-Loop.
Documents are treated as mini workflows that involve one or more team members. The software guides you through data collection, processing and content generation using a no-code philosophy (no coding is required).
The use of AI is tightly controlled by breaking complex tasks into smaller ones. For most documents, there is not one prompt that creates it all. Instead, there are many prompts, sometimes dozens, where each one is focused on a well-defined subset of the content.
This is all made possible by Tag’s task automation software. Working with data and designing rich text is all done with clear, human-readable instructions and easy to use screens. You have full control over the automation of your workflow, asking Tag’s AI chatbot for assistance in the creation of your templates and prompts, as needed.
The end result is a Human-AI partnership, where AI can handle many of the time-consuming and resource-intensive tasks, while leaving the ownership of decisions, verification, and final outputs with the human user - where it should be.
Here’s How it Works
1. AI - For Data Extraction
To generate a document you start with a template, which usually requires some input data. Forms are used to gather data either manually from the user or by using AI to extract data from the user’s sources of information to autofill the form.
To extract data using AI, specified form fields are connected to AI chains, which contain instructions and context to fill that field. That may involve summarizing a document, consolidating data, extracting repeating records, generating data sets, and much, much more.
In some cases, you may have multiple fields to fill based on one (or many) unstructured document(s). In this case instruct the AI to search through the source(s) for the specific data you want, extract the data, and map it to fields in your form.
When multiple team members are involved, each one accesses shared forms to enter data and/or run AI chains. Data can be gathered as it shows up, pulling from all kinds of sources (e.g., documents, web APIs, databases, voice transcripts, other systems).
Think of the forms as a staging area, where humans can verify that all the data the AI has extracted is correct... with no hallucinations.
2. AI - For Data Transformation
Another valuable use for AI is to process the data that is collected. You can use AI chains to transform the data that has been verified in the form staging area.
Often this is where document content is created. Combining your tailored prompts with a writing sample of your expected output ensures content that looks and sounds like you.
Using targeted AI chains in this way means no costly model-training, and near-instant ROI. The AI models learn from your prompts and samples, and you can swap between AI vendors effortlessly to compare results.
3. Tag - Knitting it All Together
Once the AI has extracted and transformed the data, with just one click, Tag assembles the final output as a word processing doc (DOCX), Google Doc or fillable PDF.
What sets Tag apart is its automation layer, allowing users to apply "white box" logic to control how outputs are generated.
When the output is rich text, users can design their own templates with full control over formatting and branding - no compromise, no coding.
