What Is Onboarding?

What is Onboarding?

Onboarding is a service we offer to help you get started quickly using Tag. It can also provide access to advanced features that are normally hidden.

Even though Tag is easy to learn, sometimes you don’t have time to learn anything new. Onboarding can jump you past the learning curve, and make generating your own document the first step on your journey to content automation bliss.

Converting static Documents

The most common task during onboarding is converting static documents into dynamic smart content. We can convert word processing (and other format) documents into smart content reports and identify components that can be shared.

Part of the process involves defining your data. What data do you want to gather or import that will affect how content is generated? It could be one common set of data for several reports, or a unique set of data for each report.

During data setup, we can help you define data fields. We are experts in data modeling and can identify best practice opportunities quickly.

Similarly during template creation, we are always looking for opportunities to reuse content and logic. We can often suggest a reuse-friendly approach that is similar to other documents we have created. We can identify utility templates that will save you time and effort (e.g., applying a preferred date format everywhere) and will often copy them from other reports to save time.

One big time saver during data entry is the auto fill wizard. It allows you to import data from 1 row in a CSV file, and map each column to data fields in your forms. This is a feature that is not often found in other tools, and so it may not be obvious at first where to use it.

Combining data mapping with Google or Mailchimp forms can also be very useful. With this approach, you can publish a form (created with any tool that lets you export the data) to anyone who uses a web browser and import the data gathered into Tag forms. We’ve used this approach many times and can share useful tips and tricks.

Accessing advanced features

Some of the more advanced features in Tag are hidden by default. In some cases, these features are in beta, and in other cases, there are additional fees for running jobs. Onboarding provides an opportunity to address the unique aspects of advanced features to see if they would be a good fit for your company.

Please contact us if you are interested in:

  • Knowledge graphs
  • Machine learning
  • Task pipelines

Support for knowledge graphs in Tag is provided by two powerful knowledge graph frameworks (Jena and OWL-API). These can be used to read graphs created with other tools, create efficient disk-based databases for large graphs, and support automated reasoning in multiple ways.

Knowledge graphs can also be integrated with smart content. For example, graph queries can be processed like rows in a CSV where each instance/row is used to generate a separate document. You can also move data the other way, by importing data gathered by Tag forms into a knowledge graph.

Support for machine learning is subject to additional fees. The fees are calculated before the service is invoked, so you always know what the cost will be before proceeding.

Another powerful advanced feature available to you is task pipelines. Pipelines are multi-step jobs that work at the file level. You can use them to generate multiple output documents, integrate calls to external services (e.g., pull data out of a CRM tool like Salesforce), store copies of documents in multiple locations, and even generate data-driven vector graphics.

Cost of onboarding services

For new accounts, the first 2 hours of onboarding services are free. This is often long enough to demonstrate how the service works and to convert simple documents into runnable smart templates. Subsequent consulting is subject to a flat hourly rate or fixed fee where appropriate.
